To an extent.

It does give oppurtunity to the new and not so well known writers to publish their work.
But, the readership for eBooks or eDocs is still low. So, it may take some time before eBooks really happen. Till then, ePublishers need focus on niche areas.

I agree with Radhika. Journalism is going through a lot of changes. With the emergence of social media, citizen journalism is also picking up as a prominent trend. In July 2004, Dan Gillmor wrote a very interesting book “We the Media”. Since then, the book has been translated in many languages. A must go through for an aspiring journalist.

We've all read the articles in top business magazines about how India is the new, booming market for all-things-global. But I think it is still sinking in for Indians! Considering the huge buying-power of this country, it comes as no surprise that eBay's Indian market share is so high and growing so fast. I think that Indian eCommerce ventures can and have gone really far and become iconic successes in their own way.

There is another search engine for India: www.guruji.com

Launched in October 2006, Guruji is the brainchild of two IIT engineers and has venture funding from Sequoia Capital India. It is to be noted that Sequoia Capital has a history of investing in promising ventures- Google, Yahoo, Cisco , You Tube, to name a few.

Guruji uses crawl technology, a complex computing system that crawls the web , indexes data and identifies Indian content using sophisticated algorithms. So, all searches have an Indian context and one does not have to type ‘India’.

There has been a beginning. It is to be seen how the search engine develops and performs.

This model is sooo interesting - chillibreeze will be watching carefully so that we can do the same in India. How about Social Entrepreneurship for a topic? We already have a list of people who are interested.
